It's the most fucked up and VERY stupid way of doing things in my at the very least, personal, and anecdotal opinion. But my brother also fucked up his children. My sister is hopeless. My cousins on my fathers side were all raised by Grandmother on fathers side, two moms (aunts), another aunt, and Godfather, and turned out far better, graduated college and have stable lives, one became a prolific female engineer. All raised in an extended Italian clan that lived in the same neighborhood. They all lived together and didn't move away from their parents like my family attempted to do, escaping half a country away without any wisdom or support. My mom lost her father at a very young age as well which I am certain didn't help. A larger extended family would have blunted that trauma and enabled her and her brother to have a real father figure in their teens. The way people are relying on the government now, it will be a piece of cake for a Chinese run firm to scarf people up off the streets and pogrom them in ways that make our current cultural issues seem warm and fuzzy. | |||
