Honestly, level difference is the biggest factor on charm/calm resistance. Keep your defence skill close to cap and even with moderate charisma you’ll do fine 12-20. I can’t speak from experience on the higher levels, but you’re only 5 now. You don’t need to worry about breaking in to broodmother yet.
