It's going to be real embarrassing if mRNA vaccine technology doesn't work or works poorly, and the Russian and Chinese companies who went the traditional viral vector route produce a superior vaccine.

On the other hand, if it works, and works well, it's going to make Russia and China look like cave men.

We will never know. I dont trust the metrics for recording the success/failure of treating COVID, and I certainly will not trust anything coming out of China. China has only recorded that 86,000 people have gotten COVID, not bad for a country with over a billion people. Maybe they are lying?? Nah they wouldnt do that.

It is very possible that in 50 years, we will look at our reaction to covid similarly to how our fathers reacted to the Gulf of Tonkin.
