Urban U.S. and Rural U.S. appear to be increasingly divergent nations within a single country. Of late I increasingly ask what's the point of continued union when neither side involved particularly wants it anymore except out of habit? De-federalization handled in a manner similar to how the former USSR handled it would be far from the worst possible outcome. One nation, Indivisible--a nice thought but I'm not sure it reflects reality anymore.
