We don't! We also aren't complete nihilists, so we do have the luxury of a tentatively agreed upon reality to use as a baseline. It's important to ask whether or not our perspective of that reality is the only way to see it, though. If someone sees something else, one or both of you are wrong or maybe simultaneously right.
