Default Ever hear of the 30-point gap?

There is a theory that a person with an IQ of 160 would have difficulty conversing with someone with an IQ of 130, who in turn would have problems relaying ideas to one with an average IQ of 100.

The following post is from someone who addresses this gap. They are not my own words. Quite amusing. Parentheses I have added.

"Yes I think it (refers to gap) is. Much more so that any difference in age or ethnicity.

The reason being that there would always be frustration between them (man and woman), that they would not be able to converse at the same level.

The more intelligent one would therefore seek a mistress or a lover with whom they can have a sensible conversation. This could easily lead to an affair from which the marriage might well not survive.

It would get worse and worse the longer time went on and the older they get, since conversation is a key to good companionship once you hit middle-age, and takes over even from sex in old age.

I am middle-aged myself, but if I found a teenager, even right down to 16 (the legal minimum), who could match me intellectually, who had imagination and was eager to explore all sorts of philosophical ideas with me, I would consider her to be a much better marriage prospect than a woman in her 30s, more appropriate age-wise and probably more knowledgable about life and the world, but who was only interested in fashion, celebrities and soaps."

This is akin to how off-base some of the replies have been to my post. The 16 year minimum was news to me; maybe he was European.
