Does reading in-game story effect game at all?

This is my first go round Norrath. I am a lvl 35 mag named Opehy. Does reading the EQ Lore/Story give any kind of useful information or direct you toward quests? Today I noticed one of the stories paragraph's was highlighted in blue instead of white. Anyone know why?
