I disagree. Hybrid penalties are shared with the group. XP gain is very noticeably slower when grouped with hybrid and racially penalized players.Your example is not exactly a scientific one. Yes, he leveled sooner than you did however he has a modifier as well. The thing is that per kill, you get more of the XP pool available for distribution. If he were grouped with another of the same race, class and level both would get 50% of the pool and he would have leveled even quicker. The shared penalty doesn't mean that everyone in the group has the same penalty applied to them, it means that they get less XP per kill and you get a little more although it is offset by your penalties. There's another post in this thread where someone linked to a post by Dumesh where the XP calculation was explained.
The crappy part is also that when you group with people in their hell levels, you get less XP per kill too..
