Specific question on charming/exp

to get the kill from a broken charm pet, make you sure you get the last hit

i thought its about who getting the most dmg in, but i had cases where i break a low hp pet at 9%, nuked it to 1%, and it died from dot from an earlier mob. "mob xxx was slained by mob yyy" corpse instantly poofed
