Question About Necromancer Epic Final Steps

I just want to be certain:

Once I have the Tome of Instruction and head to PoSky I want to be sure I can't fuck things up.

If I get there and the zone is empty but Gkzzallk is already up am I safe to do the turn in and will I receive Gkzzallk in a Box? Or is there a way where he can be up, but because I wasn't the one to spawn him by handing the TSP 10gp he eats my quest item?

Basically, if I am standing in front of Gkzzallk and hand him the Tome of Instruction is there any way that won't work?
