I think that was some TZVZ thread where casters such as Lasher were whining that they had to have root in game in order to be balanced against melees so they could keep the melee away from them because their survivability was too low. (which was a total joke and a half seeing as how naked casters tanked the same as warriors on that server).

The way I see it, that claim is idiotic at best because melee hybrids are also casting roots and snares too. I had many fights while playing a ranger where me and a caster would both be spamming roots on each other in a 1vs1 fight. The end result was usually me and the caster both perma rooted standing next to each other while I meleed him to death.

Root landing in EQ PvP does the following things:

1) Death sentence for all melees but not casters since casters immediately hit gate as soon as root lands on them and they see a zerg running closer to pummel them into the ground.

2) Rewards people that zerg rush. They just run at you with a million people all spamming root for free kills. If anything, you should want game mechanics that do the exact opposite of this.

3) Makes hybrids stronger at PvP when they didn't need an upgrade in the first place.

4) Makes pure melee useless unless you're some kind of zerger that walks around with a giant pack of people all day. If you don't, you're just going to insta die to a root zerg rush.

Given all the negatives listed above, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to change crowd control spells from how they worked on EQ Live PvP servers. It was all Heresy casters (and that xebeken or macken guy that got banned for cheating) making whines out of self interest with no regards to actual game balance.
