The marginal cost to marginal benefit ratio of most EQ upgrades in classic EQ is very high. A small increase in stats for BiS item will cost big money, and may have no appreciable change in your game play. Small increases across the board add up, however.

If its important to you and you don't want to acquire raid gear be prepared to shell out mucho dinero to get upgrades.
