A lot of bands don't evolve at all and in a lot of cases that's a bad thing. I don't like Opeth's new output. I find it boring and lifeless. They had an earlier stab at prog rock with
Damnation and that was one of their best. I don't know why I don't like their new stuff but still good that they changed because it was quite clear they were stagnating.
But anyway.... change is good regardless.
I'll check out some of the names you mentioned sometimes. Prog metal is a subgenre I sleep on.
