I've gone through 4-5 times using HS on my Necro. I send pet at the 3 cast HS and swim (I'm max swim skill) it will fall off part way down, but just keep swimming and you'll almost always make it. Only time I died was learning where you need to start swimming up.

That was long time ago prior to Levant, now I pray it's night time or wait for guild dru/wiz because I'm lazy.
