Since presumably this is all about the idiot with the paragraph-long sex spams, why not just ban his IP address? Yeah, he may go log in from a friend's computer, then let's ban that one. Surely there would be a limit to how many IP addresses he could access for an online game?

You nailed it IMO. Its just the select few that don't care about getting banned. Instead of removing a very important tool for our new comers, lets just focus on removing the idiots and not everyone.
