They were contacted and told to meet somewhere for peace talks. On the way, they were stopped where one guy was shot. LaVoy got back in the vehicle and ran. They obviously expected this because they had a drone watching, a roadblock already set up, and a piece of shit hiding in the woods. They even opened fire on the people still sitting inside LaVoy's vehicle DOING NOTHING. This was premeditated murder in every sense of the word.

I don't see how the presence of a roadblock up the road from the standoff proves there was a premeditated engagement there at all. I'm sure there was 24 hour surveillance and ability to immediately intercept any traffic in that area during the standoff, and plenty of men lurking in the woods at relevant posts. That drone, or a rotation of drones at least, had surely been keeping aerial surveillance nonstop for days already. I'm not saying it wasn't premeditated, I'm just saying using that line of reasoning makes it really obvious you don't understand how a high-profile, high-stakes standoff like this works even in the abstract. I sincerely doubt the FBI and local law enforcement have been sparing expense on basic matters like aerial surveillance and control of relevant roads at the risk of losing control of a very volatile PR situation that could potentially detonate any career it touched.

That said, still zero sympathy for the "zog promised us peace talks! whoda thunk they are underhanded enough to ambush us!!!!" line of passing the blame. If a maneuver like this is coming as a surprise to you, you are too stupid to protect yourself muh 2nd amendment or no. This embarrassment is what happens when you give blind television watchers a small taste of the knowledge that they are being exploited. Such well-intentioned but worthless individuals are better expended in a combat theater organized by more capable men than left to represent their people like buffoons.
