Default Red Mage: Preventing Pet Poof?

On red magicians pets are often quick to lose their most valuable asset, their pet, when confronting Bards or Enchanters via pet charming where if a player charms your pet, it instantly dies. Likewise, mage pets are easily rooted, feared, or otherwise rendered useless. In this thread I would like to pick the brains of more experienced mages, from both red and blue, as to ways one would enhance their pet's resilience to charming and being CCed.

I have a few ideas I have not yet tested myself, if anyone could answer or provide some insight to the following, as well as add their own input, I would greatly appreciate it!

Vial of Vampire Blood from Mistmoore, http://wiki.project1999.com/Vial_of_Vampire_Blood

Is this usable on ones pet or is it self only? I figure this (40-50 MR?) and x2 Dagger of Symbols would be a start.

Can one hand cheap MR gear to pets? What slots can pets wear? Some ideas for cheaply farmable gear for Pet PVP..

Is there an base MR value difference between say Earth/Air/Water?

Thanks!
