It works for baseball though, as small market teams have always been able to compete. The real issue isn't the cap it's the floor. Teams like the Yankees shell out big bucks in luxury tax so teams like the Marlins are already in the black before they sell a ticket due to revenue sharing, TV contracts, etc. Not a real motivation for shitbag owners to build a good team when they are actually more profitable running a team of triple A players out there and getting their shit pushed in.
