All Zones Are Black

hi. my problem is that all zones i enter are completely black and void also, at the character select screen, i can only see my characters weapons. i can see chat boxes and other aspects of my UI just fine.

before this, i was getting 0x 0x cannot read error, and could not even log in, but i fixed this by running EQ in windows XP service pack 3 compatibility mode.

specs are as follows.

Asus x550c
windows 8.1 pro x64
500gb hd
8gb ram
nvidia geforce 720m video card
intel IVY bridge dual core ULV 1.5 ghz

note: these problems started when i changed from windows 7 to Window 8.1
