Pay it forward.
When I first started on the server I got a ton of fat hookups: PP for spells, an FBR, braided cinch cord, gator scale sleeves, and a full set of cha jewelry. All of this from total strangers. I do my best to return the favor now that I'm established. There are tons of pieces of gear that go unused because they aren't BIS but they are 100 times better than any gear a newbie can get.
