i haven't been playing lately, but some thoughts:
it sucked when i was soloing on my paladin in the late 40s and i'd get jumped by someone in the upper half of the 50s. no amount of skill on my part is going to give my level 49 paladin a chance against a level 57 of any class, except maybe a cleric without a manastone. (if i have LOH up)
on the other hand, if i'm out rolling with a group of guildies and one of the higher levels in my group got jumped by someone above my PVP range... it would be nice if i could get in a few swings on whoever jumped us.
tl;dr -- smaller level range is better for soloing, while a larger level range necessitates making friends and roaming in packs so that you don't get ganked.
not sure which i prefer, will likely get back into red after i beat this solo RPG i'm working on.... will vote later.
