Default For all the new players on p99... some quick tips to make a buck or two

Welcome! I just started playing again as well after being gone for about a year or so.

I know when I first started playing p99 my initial concern was figuring out how I could make some cash as I needed it for spells which were surprisingly expensive for a low level who starts with nothing. So, in no random order I'd like to just list some ways I made a quick buck when I first started.

Most of my experience leveling characters in the 1-10 or so level range has been in EC. It's a good spot to level in for a few reasons. There are guards to run to if you get into trouble. There is always a large group of high level players in the tunnel who are usually willing to give out buffs or maybe even some low level items that they have taking up space in their bags. Lastly, there are several merchants for you to sell at, and the bank in NFP (if you're not an evil race) is only two short zones away. You can bank and be back killing stuff in under 10 minutes easily. So, here's some stuff that while not EC specific, EC is the zone I have in mind as I talk about them.

- Kill decaying skeletons, even when they're green and give no exp. Two reasons: 1.) You can sell stacks of 20 bone chips for 5-10pp to players who need them for summoning pets. 2.) If they have are carrying a cracked staff, which you can see, merchants will pay a plat or two for it which is huge at low levels. So keep laying waste to every decaying skeleton or skeleton that you see!
- Kill lots of lions/lionesses/bears of all types. Often times players who use the tradeskill tailoring will buy these. I think Medium Quality (MQ) pelts will sometimes sell for around 3-5pp a piece while I've seen players pay up to 60pp for High Quality (HQ) bear pelts. These are mobs you should also consider killing on sight when you're a low level, even if they become green to you. (Young Kodiaks and Kodiaks in WC will give you a good opportunity for exp/loot past level 10 as well.)
- Willowisps are a good mob to kill whenever you see them as well. Fairly often they will drop a Greater Lightstone which can either help you see better in the dark or can be sold to a merchant for a few plat.
- Kill and loot pretty much anything that has a two handed weapon. They can usually be sold for a few gp to a merchant if I recall.
- In EC, get into a group at one of the two orc camps. This is beneficial for a couple of reasons, aside from good exp due to the relatively high number of pulls. I believe the orcs drop belts which can be turned in for good exp as part of a quest or sold to other players for a few plat. Also, this is a good time to learn about group dynamics and to learn your class' role in a group. (This was the first real group I ever played in way back in 2000 when I first played EQ)
- Spider Silk which is dropped by some of the larger spiders in EC and WC can sometimes be sold to other players by the stack as well for crafting purposes. It's worth it to either hold onto the silk until you have a whole stack of 20 as opposed to selling it piecemeal to merchants.
- If you do have a little bit of plat saved up and thus have some cash to spend, then consider getting into baking. You can advance your skill up to 132/142 (cant remember) fairly cheaply and then you can make fish cakes which you can sell to players by the stack and make some decent spending money for a lower level.
- Be polite. There are a lot of really nice, generous people on the server and you would be surprised how far please and thank you will take you. If you need help, just ask. You may get turned down, but you may not either. Whatever the case, don't be annoying and start sending obnoxious shouts/ooc's about soandso because they wouldn't buff you or give you money.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head right now. Like I said, I was thinking about EC with all of this, but there are other zones like GFay/BBM that can mimic a lot of what I said. I'd really like to see other people add to this with their own tips/tricks for other areas of Norrath in regards to making a quick buck when you're a lowbie so that you can get some good starter gear and stay interested in p99 and keep this awesome thing going.

Oh yeah, my character in game is Sooby, a 38 druid. If I'm free and you see me, feel free to hit me up for buffs or whatever. If I have some spare stuff on me too I'll probably hand it out [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
