How would you guys reccomend I get into Dota 2 as a former Dota (RoC) and current LoL player?

I've given it a couple of games and it just doesn't feel nearly as polished as LoL. I also really fucking hate the graphics/darkness of everything. I can never tell what's going on. Anyway to make that better?
