Is the aggro range on stalking probes and eye of zomm the same?

I remember messing around with eye of zomm in raids to kill time and I could swear the aggro was about player character range, if not less. Like in KD I could zoom around the Vindi area and only get my eye stomped getting into melee range.

Stalking probes aggro range is ridiculous.
