Thanks for that nilbog post, Ele. Hes probably right, people might not want to continue playing if a wipe was imminent.

Path of Exile took an interesting approach. Whenever they make a major change to balance or fundamentals in a patch they "move" all existing characters to a legacy server that can forever continue to play (under the new patch). This way the main server technically starts fresh and is unaffected by the imbalances caused by previous exploits, and older players who liked where they were and didn't want to lose out on their time invested could continue without interruption.

Edit: Spelling

I can already see without velious having been implemented that the server has gone through a few struggles that imbalanced its players by a large margin. I know that in some cases cheaters have gotten away with a lot up to this point and a lot of much appreciated effort has been put into putting a stop to it, but damage has been done.

To put it another way, how long can this server continue trying to capture a moment in time? I love the idea of p1999 and I know we all do, but there were not lvl 20s with rogue and clerics epics in that time as I remember. The economy of this game isn't designed to last 10 years without expansion packs or further growth, and there is no marketing done to reach out to new players except word of mouth. I just think a project like this only really works if it gets reset every 4 years or so.

This will surely be unpopular with all the regulars on this forum and all the hard-cores, but sometimes in the woods you need to light a fire so it can grow back better then ever. I've spent a great deal of time on this server and it would feel like a gutpunch to lose my characters, of course. But I would return feeling revitalized and better then ever.

Hit meh.
question is stupid

The instant Catherin purchases a pre-nerf fungi staff, the server will end and be wiped clean, as was foretold in P99 lore.

I'm not talking in the event of a climate failure or any unforeseen catastrophe, I just mean will the world ever get a purposeful wipe?

I can already see without world peace having been implemented that the world has gone through a few struggles that imbalanced its inhabitants by a large margin. I know that in some cases criminals have gotten away with a lot up to this point and a lot of much appreciated effort has been put into putting a stop to it, but damage has been done.

To put it another way, how long can this species continue trying to capture the world's resources? I love the idea of luxury and I know we all do, but we were not leveling forests for roads and coal plants in the times I remember. The economy of this earth isn't designed to last 65 million years without extermination attacks or further plagues, and there is no marketing done to reach out to new parents except in China. I just think a world like this only really works if it gets reset every 65 million years or so.

This will surely be unpopular with all the rich bankers on this planet and all the young people, but sometimes in the woods you need to light a fire so it can grow back better then ever. I've spent a great deal of time on this earth and it would feel like a gutpunch to lose my life, of course. But I would return feeling revitalized and better then ever.

Hit meh.

lol, the funny thing about this game is, you dont need any platinum to get any item you want (as long as it still drops), so all the economy complaints are laughable

Must be in double figures for the times I've said it... you can't bring a new P99 server up until there's at LEAST 1500 nightly because you'll end up with 2 quiet servers. Nobody likes quiet servers...

Eh well, Darwin. Would any one of them be missed IRL anyway? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
