After like level 20 you can't melee anymore, not like they could before that, so you can be sort of like a Mage and be naked and it works. Just a Drum and Lute like Sam said. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I've not played a bard since pre-Kunark on Live! However, doesn't some charisma gear help with mez duration as with enchanters? A horrible overpull could be better managed if the bard has something approaching 200 CHA, and not 70 [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Get a drum like everyone's saying. Also, bronze when you see it on vendors. Just to look all shiny. The real dough starts rolling in once you're leveled up!

Get your MM drum and a vendor-bought lute and level through your teens AE kiting wisps in NK - sell the lightstones, hand in the greater lightstones to the gypsy for the 10pp books, and try to save up enough money to buy a McVaxius horn before you are 18 (I got like 1500pp on red release in one sitting of a few hours under duress in NK). Use horn to AE kite to 50. You don't need jack really except maybe a little AC/HP gear for surviving smaller kites as you're learning (if you need to). There will be plenty of opportunities to earn cash for non-kite gear as you level up - get that better horn as soon as you can since it will help your efficiency overall quite a bit.

Once you're level 12 you get a short range DD that is useful for tagging stuff. Until then I would just smack one of them and twist in regen song (with lute equipped of course!) and use him to social aggro the other wisps. As you regen your hp you can punch some more of them to speed it up and spread out your pull, thus getting you more adds without effort possibly.
