I had wondered if they were going to even put those in, since these creatures never make another appearance anywhere else in Tolkien's works. I don't think they added anything.

They are the same thing in Middle Earth.

I am kind of a purist, but the embellishments were not bad to me. A lot of the added stuff was part of the story but in different works. I like how the beginning takes place the morning before the Fellowship opens; nice touch.

The giants are in the book, random and wtfoutofnowhere
Yeah, but they weren't literally ROCK giants in the book. In the book, they are giants (just like any other giants, but noted as being much TALLER) who are running around in the plains (under the mountain they are trying to take shelter inside of) throwing rocks at each other for sport. Peter Jackson took it as they are giants made out of rock.

Not trolling, just really curious about the 48fps.

You did in fact see it in the 48fps version, correct? I heard that they were showing 3 versions, 24fps, 48fps, and 3d48fps, though i could be wrong.

I've heard from lots of people/reviewers that the 48fps thing was a mixed bag, at times looking fantastic (particularly during the riddle scene) and at others looking like a soap opera.

Anyone else have any specific thoughts on the first major motion picture shot/viewed in 48fps? I will eventually go see the movie myself, but I really am skeptical about the 48fps thing, heard alot of bad things about it.
I saw it in that 3d 48fps and I would not recommend it. Although my family didn't have the same issue, it felt like the whole thing was in fast forward to me. I'm probably going to see it again just the normal 2d version and get to actually enjoy it instead of feeling nauseated the whole time. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

SPOILER ALERT::::

P.S. I was upset at the riddle telling between Bilbo and Golem, "time, time" was a cry for more time with the riddle, not his actual guess [You must be logged in to view images. Bilbo was played as far too much of a hero rather than the well-to-do good natured hobbit who happens to have a spark in him. /shrug Everyone's interpretation will be different though I suppose.

Well with regards to the troll scene, thats not really up for interpretation, they completely changed it from how it was in the book. Although there is always some adaptation for movies from books so thats not really that surprising. I agree that the overall feel of bilbo in the movie was more of a hero than just a clever "tricky" type character.
