Please explain, I'm merely an outsider looking in. But even if they are crazy, is my argument that their community is more inclusive and cooperative than P99's any less valid? And the fanatics in the P99 community can be just as batshit crazy.

Accounts were bought with plat, the plat was then sold for $$$. Should we go after the person who bought the char with plat, or the seller ?

Unfortunately, what I see here is your guildmates turned their backs on you, Metallikus, and decided to cash out on their way out.

Keep drinking that Kool-aid.
It's a fair point that I must concede. How do you police the RMT if not ban the accounts that created the plat to be sold for real dollars? If every association with RMT came with a ban, then people wouldn't willy-nilly buy up obvious RMT'd accounts because there would be risk and thus reduce the ease of such against the rules type activities. I'll still drink the Kool-aid and say there's no chance that the devs aren't somehow involved in the RMT bidness or it might be policed better. Chinese goldfarming aint a new thing.

It's a bannable offense to accuse devs of such actions.

When PC gamers first came into the server, it was like the end times. They had just got their server back from the crazy heathens of SOE to have it fall to the malicious, hacking scumbag children that all PC gamers were. No one could be trusted. They would rather have the server shut down than have PC dogs breathing the same air as them.

You mean...people would have to level up their own toons? That would work in a Utopia. Sadly, people will want to have high level toons without having to put in the effort of leveling them up. If they can't obtain the toons through platinum, they will obtain them through other means, including RMT. Its very difficult to definitively determine a character (account) has changed hands to another player.

Honestly, plat account sales are better for deterring account RMT than banning plat account sales. Its kind of like the media's battle with piracy, they'd win if they made it easier to obtain their material through proper means than simply trying to end piracy.

ban plat account sales so if any account changes hand no matter which method it would be against the rules and said account can be ban without any rule lawyering

I've already countered this...

Until you can determine a surefire way to determine players have swapped characters, you cannot prove this. Viewing IPs doesn't do this, because even most home routers and also ISPs change IPs occasionally. So the person could be playing the same account from the same house as was done yesterday, but if the user's router or the ISP changed the external IP address, the user would still flag as playing from a different IP. Also, some people EQ in multiple locations, like those who are able to answer batphones while at work. In those instances, the user most likely has multiple IP addresses that the user legitimately plays EQ from. All the above are legitimate cases of playing from multiple IP addresses which make account transfer hard to distinguish.

Since the root of the problem cannot be solved, it is better to legalize a method for obtaining toons than outright banning their official transfer because then unofficial (read RMT) transfer will proliferate more. Examples: Prohibition, marijuana, cocaine.

Don't think this is the case from my experiences, there are some weirdos over there, but that's the norm for any server really.
