Why do people smoke cigarettes?

I won't even get into how I feel about alcohol. Regardless, that's the most legitimate answer, besides HBB so far. HBB's answer was the exact reason I was saying people smoke though, so whatever, or something.

I agree the world would be a much better place without cigarettes in it. It's a disgusting addiction: breath is gross between brushing teeth, their cars tend to smell, the individual smells gross after smoking one, and of course all the physical effects of long term use which are well documented.
