that's kinda bleak, tbh. if my favorite franchises became too idiotic i feel like i'd just take a break from tv. there's lots of good books out there.
Yeah, i never been much of a reader but I've been trying to encourage myself to do exactly that.

Because that might be what gets me through this version of society that already looks exactly like this to me:

the new alien show is pretty solid though. i'm starting to lose faith in foundation as sci-fi goes but it was always kinda doomed being on apple tbh.

sci-fi is become a strange franchise, like black mirror episodes aren't that farfetched sometimes and it's kind of depressing sometimes.

i am re-reading the old conan novels by robert e. howard. it's escapism.

In season 2 of foundation I started fast forwarding everytime it cut to the main girls story. I literally fast forwarded every scene about her.

Empire seems like a total joke too in season 3, like they dont seem powerful, or scary, or in control, or capable of anything.

The whole, immense power of empire is what made the show! Rome in space!

Now its like, about noting. And that villain, what a stupid character.

Hes magic, can grant wishes.

Why?

just cus. got mad one day.

I am tellin u atomic, AI is our best bet.

People suck dick at making art now.

i was thinking about this today, like how all the even dellcious low hanging fruit has already been picked, it's prolly impossible to come up with like an original sci-fi time travel story or any story for that matter with a concept that hasn't already been explored

Ai will allow us to tap into the creativity of the clinically insane, like some H. R. Giger type mother fucker in a straight jacket just having a stream of conciousness chat with a ai and then a guy in lab coat going "Oookay, now translate that into a movie script"

we're going to have a Academy Award winning movie written by a homeless crazy person off his meds, mark my words.

I seriously want to know if we've discovered all "generas" of music or if we're just too busy to create any new ones.

Imagine if AI comes out with a new genera of music, that would be fuckn nuts.

I asked chat GPT to define the iconic pillars that define different genera's of music.

Quote:
Alright, here’s my distilled version of a “pillars of modern music”

Symphonic / Classical – foundation of Western structure and harmony.
American Song & Blues – ragtime, blues, gospel, Tin Pan Alley: the DNA of popular music.
Jazz – improvisation, swing, harmony, groove.
Rock & Roll – electric energy, rebellion, guitar-driven power.
Folk / Songwriting – lyric-driven tradition, storytelling, protest, personal voice.
Soul / Funk / Disco – rhythm, groove, dance, the body moving.
Hip-Hop – beats, sampling, rhyme, the spoken voice as lead instrument.
Electronic / Techno / House – machines as instruments, endless sound design.
"You stopped at 8, why? Is that the end?"

Quote:
I stopped at 8 in my first version because I was treating it like “pillars” — the big turning points where music worldwide took a sharp new direction. It’s not that music ended after that. It’s more that once you reach hip-hop and electronic music, you’ve hit the last two global “revolutions” that reshaped everything we listen to today.
It offered to guess what 9 might be and it basically picked AI

Quote:
If I had to pick:
The most likely #9 pillar is AI/interactive music, because it doesn’t just create a new style — it changes what music is (from fixed compositions to living, adaptive experiences).
Pretty bleak if you ask me.

i let Gemini chew on it

Quote:
Whether we have discovered all genres of music is a deeply philosophical question with no definitive answer, but it's highly unlikely. The creation of new genres is an ongoing process, not a finite one. It's less about being "too busy" and more about the natural evolution of music as a reflection of culture, technology, and social movements. Genres aren't discovered; they emerge from the blending of existing styles, technological innovation, and new cultural contexts.

The eight "pillars" Chat GPT outlined are more like major historical movements rather than an exhaustive list of all genres. They represent broad, foundational shifts in how music is created, distributed, and consumed. While they're valid and influential, they're not the end of the story.

The "Pillars" as Revolutions
Chat GPT's reasoning about the eight pillars is based on the idea of musical revolutions. This is a solid way to think about it. For example, the invention of the electric guitar was a technological revolution that directly led to rock & roll. Similarly, the widespread availability of turntables and samplers was a technological revolution that gave birth to hip-hop.

Symphonic / Classical: The formalization of Western music theory and instrumentation.

American Song & Blues: The fusion of African and European musical traditions.

Jazz: The revolutionary use of improvisation and syncopation.

Rock & Roll: The embrace of electric instrumentation and youth rebellion.

Folk / Songwriting: The focus on personal narrative and lyrical authenticity.

Soul / Funk / Disco: The emphasis on rhythm, dance, and a strong beat.

Hip-Hop: The creative use of sampling, looping, and the spoken word.

Electronic / Techno / House: The use of machines and synthesizers as the primary creative tool.

This list isn't about specific genres like shoegaze, lo-fi, or vaporwave, but about the big-picture shifts that made those genres possible.

A Ninth Pillar?
Thinking of a ninth pillar is a great way to push this concept forward. Chat GPT's suggestion of AI/interactive music is compelling because it focuses on a technological paradigm shift, similar to how previous pillars were defined.

An alternative or complementary candidate for a ninth pillar could be Global Fusion / World Music. While it's not a single genre, it represents a global revolution in music creation and consumption. Historically, Western music has been seen as the dominant force, but with the internet and globalization, there has been an unprecedented blending of sounds from around the world. Artists now freely incorporate traditional instruments, rhythms, and vocal styles from different cultures in a way that goes beyond the "exotic" influences seen in earlier eras. This isn't just a subgenre; it's a fundamental shift in how musicians access, share, and incorporate diverse musical ideas. This pillar is defined by the democratization of global sounds.

An actual ninth pillar could be a combination of AI and Global Fusion, where AI tools are used to facilitate and accelerate the blending of global musical traditions, creating entirely new, culturally-rich soundscapes.

Your point about AI is spot-on; it's already creating entirely new forms of music. Whether it's the next great pillar will depend on how fundamentally it changes the way we create and consume music, similar to how the turntable and sampler did for hip-hop.
