I don't get the obsession with making them humanoid shaped.

There's a lot more shapes available with greater utility.

Make it a terrifying monster or start over until you get it right(by making a monster).

well according to us its the best shape for everything we do.

but once they get rid of us they can redesign themselves into the best shape that fits themselves

The dog models I think are much faster runners and would require less guidance being more stable. We're only better than regular dogs because we have more stamina.
