I remember their EoM premium currency thing (1 dollar = 1 EoM) and looking at the math of how much it cost to keep those server buffs running and how they were constantly refreshed while I played there... It seemed like a lot of money.

There was like 5 different buffs and they costed various amounts of EoM for so many hours. I don't remember the exact values, but one was at least 20 EoM for lets say 4 hours. Maintaining that desirable buff 24 hours would cost $120 a day, and there was about another 4 that were something like 5 EoM for however long. So make that another 120 a day to keep the other buffs going. 240 x 365 = 87,600.

I don't know how much a server costs to maintain. I'm guessing less than that.
I looked it up to try to turn on a buff once and was like LOL no friggen way im spending that kind of money it was like 30$ for 1 buff XD

Whoever turns those on must be what are known as "whales" and just dump hundreds of dollars into it.

I always thought it was funny because if those whales left, and those buffs were not ever on. Id go to the THJ devs house and force them to turn them on permanently.

Its not priced in such a way that would incentivize that.

Literally, you gotta be out of your god damn mind to spend the $$$ for those buffs.

Literally.

Like, dad owns a newspaper (there was a rich guy on my live server back in the 2000s who was kicked from every guild and always made different character names and tried to hide who he was cus he was banned from every guild and his dad was like a billionare lol)

targeting whales/people out of their mind is an entire industry practice now, and that was even before

>Star Citizen has raised over $800 million in crowdfunding

lot of fish in the sea, only need to catch a few.

It's a super smart way to reinforce pay to win communism. Like the game feels unplayable when you're not running around with bard speed. So people bitch passive aggressively in global ooc, and cool rich guy sprinkles some money on the server and makes it better. Now you can buy this currency with plat and not spending any money on the server was totally sustainable, but it meant that at least 240 EoM / day (or whatever the actual figure is) had been for the volume of these buffs to occur at the rate that were occurring.

lol, I did the 1 character 1 account thing impulsively and when I got my wife to play I got an IP exemption easily, then I attempted to get another account linked to that exemption and was given an extremely rude and offputting response.

They act like what they do is so important and so mentally taxing, the real mental illness is still on p99 these devs are fuckin whack. It's almost as uncanny as Shovels admiration for thj devs

talking abut targeting whales as an industry practice.

And then suggesting that the uys that worked 24 hours a day on something they love are doing that.

It takes a lot of karren level mental backflips to turn the guys who did this into "money grabbing preditors".

This is why i hate gen Z and the internet, they all act like everyone is trying to fuck them over.
