Base stats are only "obsolete" as soon as you're raid equipped in Kunark.
Sheesh, I don't even remember hitting the 255 stam/wis mark as a paladin until I was covered in NTOV.

dark elf necro without a doubt.

dark race
dark class

also.. the lv59 emissary of thule pet is really where the sweet spot is, imo...

second choice would be dark elf cleric.

hard decision..

Bard, don't give a shit what race. I'd get the halfling illusion mask and then be a halfling 24/7

Cleric. Tough to decide between Dark Elf and Dwarf. I went with Dwarf on p1999 but I used to play a DE on live. I think I like Clerics so much because:

- Very exciting class to play at times. Also very laid back at other times. I usually describe it as long stretches of boredom followed by moments of sheer terror. Kind of like a soccer goalie.
- One of the easier classes to get groups with.
- Helping other people with rezzes/buffs. Allowing other healing classes to use their "fun" abilities.
- People tend to remember good clerics and want to remain in contact.
- Fits my laid back even keeled personality.

Really I've enjoyed every class I've played in EQ. Rangers and Bards would probably be my second choices.

Gnome Enchanter, same as now. You can't go wrong with a class that's made to challenge your wits.

If the prospective goal was to be the end of velious, I think I would choose Erudite Paladin.

Guise. Manastone. Palladius' Axe of Slaughter. Every known clicky. Shield of the Stalwart Seas. Only struggle is to compensate for lack of strength. Red Dragonscale Bp [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Downsides: No BFG, Kerran Fishing Pole.

With primal weapons you shouldn't be worried about strength even with that race/class combo.
