Mouse off center

I am having trouble with my mouse clicking on things about 1/2 inch below what I wish to click. I tried unplugging the mouse and waiting for a bit before plugging it back in. That did not work. Is there something I can do to correct this problem? For example; X is the target hot key I with to use the mouse pointer on and O is where the pointer is before it will work on X.
