I made a wood elf because my bard back in the day was a wood elf but if you want best stats and skills-wise half-elf is number 1.

All 3 races make fine bards. Half elfs are thought to be the best because they are a happy middle-ground between the STR/STA of humans and the AGI/DEX of wood elfs.

Half Elf:
5 less STR than Human
5 less STA than Human
15 more AGI than Human
10 more DEX than Human
5 more CHA than Human

5 more STR than Wood Elf
5 more STA than Wood Elf
5 less AGI than Wood Elf
5 more DEX than Wood Elf
Same CHA as Wood Elf
