Actually, wizards weren't very impressive until manaburn. Even as a crappy druid, I could sit and stare at a wizard nuking his brains out and heal myself until he went oom and then watch him fall over dead from winged death.
Necros, on the other hand... yeah. I used to fight shadowknights all the time. Most of them had better gear than me (good team, evil team, etc.), and usually they won, although I was a good enough player that "winning" usually meant I ran like hell away as my mana and hit points started dropping into danger zones. And you know what? It was fun as hell. One of my favorite SZ war stories is coming upon four SKs in Dawnshroud Peaks and opening up a rain spell on them (most low level evils sucked and could be killed easily) only to discover that ALL FOUR OF THEM had harm touch up. Needless to say... well, at least it was a short corpse run!
EQ PVP requires more skills and tricks than any other game I've played, especially if you're going to play one of the weaker classes. I don't expect to ever rival the gaming fun I had getting my ass kicked on Sullon Zek.

I disagree. Check out the class compliment on all EQ PVP servers that ever were. A Bard can best any non casting melee and most that do cast. He can infact, best a group of non casting melee without taking a hit unless someone uses a bow which for a Warrior is pretty useless. The ability to outrun, snare, root, charm, heal, debuff, mez, stun, fear, nuke, and dot are lord...no matter what "skills" you have. I played an Enchanter in PVP and I used Charmed PCs to attack guards etc. It did get more interesting when fighting casters or Hybrids like druids but stuns work very good as well as Charm and Mez. But it only took 1 slip up for a Wizard to nuke you down or to get a DOT landed on you.
It was all about catching people unawares which doesn't take skill. Those opportunities were always there. An Enchanter with a couple Melee DPS could do pretty well. Add a Cleric and much much better yet. A Wizard/Chanter duo is very tough if they see you coming. Harm Touches etc are a one shot and even rooted casters can be deadly. Pet classes work very well but pets can be rooted or mezzed easily then its open season on their owner. Not sure where all this Leet Skilz talk is all about. Its about Class, MR, Gear, Level and Opportunity>skill more times then not.
