EQ is about exclusion and making everyone not in your guild feel inferior. This is classic behavior - however dealing with P99 royalty becomes a bit easier when you are established on the server. If you have been playing here since 2010 i would think you have a 60 as well?
I have had a char since 2010 and not yet hit 60.

This is a good thing.

People should say when they are going afk, it's a very simple courtesy. SO I don't completely disagree with your post.

Personally I just would have just asked him to please announce afk's in the future, and left it at that, refusing to group with him again seems to be a bit much.

Also if you're already drinking and somebody starts bragging about their fake elf that exists on a drive somewhere, just inform people that you're too drunk to do shots every time that they mention their main.
Or let them know that you're in a relationship and can't drive to their house to blow them whenever they mention their pixels and please just stop, it's making your heart ache terribly but the world that you want and the world that you live in can often be two very different places.

People playing Everquest usually have one thing in common, they play Everquest. Talking about your other characters or the stuff you have is the EQ equivalent of a normal human conversation. Like my kid just started second grade, or my husband and I bought jacuzzi. But I don't have a kid, husband, or jacuzzi so maybe I'll talk about my elves.

True. But it also can have different effects depending on HOW you talk about such things. Most people on P99 can manage to handle a little braggadocio when it comes to their "mains' or gears they got on alts... It's how someone talks about their pixels though, that can rub others the wrong way.

Then again, this guy seems angry at the world and probably viewed harmless light conversation about pixels as the other guy being an obnoxious, self-entitled dickhead who should never be grouped with again. Who knows.

Iunno, bragging about pixels is a fairly necessary faux pas on P99, which I think is a good thing. I mean, if someone asks me about my pixels I'll happily discuss my pixels, and that can certainly turn into a bit of harmless boasting - don't get me started on about my Windstriker.

On the other hand, excessive not-so-humble bragging can be done humorously if the person is self-aware enough to know how much of a jackass they sound like. It's the clueless, sincere assholes that bother me - the ones who start commanding group members around like some kind of neckbearded commandant.

"You invited a shaman?! That spot should be for a DPS class! This is not the most optimal, efficient exp-grinding pixel-mining group makeup!! Being as I have the best pixels in this group, I'll be making the calls from now on."

Talk about murdering a nostalgia buzz.

lol I agree. But I also know how people are, and I can tolerate some bragging. I hate groups like you describe too. Just had this in MM early morning actually. Amazing such awful attitudes can be found even in lowbie dungeons/zones.
