I have some bad (classic) news; you're going to have to travel to Erudin for tiny daggers. The good news is you'll really only use animations from 1-8, then you can switch to charming at 12ish.

I'm not sure by what you mean about the skeleton fighter however :S Do you mean your animation?

You can do some nasty fear kiting with your animation in places where you won't be able to charm yet. For example, I like to level my enchanters 40-50 at the Ancient Cyclops in OOT. 40 is too low to charm anything there, but the pet will shred the cyclops once you fear it. If you're doing it right, at level 44 you can kill 2 or 3 seafuries in between each ac as well.

This is implying that ac and seafury island aren't camped. Unless you play at like 2 am PST on a weekday both places will be camped.

No offense intended, but this doesn't sound like good advice. Searfuries are always camped, and leaving your spot at AC is just asking someone else to take your spot. If its worked for you that's great, but this seems to be inviting grief in an already dramatic zone. Adding to that ~40 is extremely low for Seafuries and AC alike.. both these guys have a ton of HP for their level. You'll make better Exp and plat killing Oggok guards at those levels. Animations are definitely great for when you can't find a good pet though.

Fear kiting works with animations but truly shines when you can charm a rogue for the backstab damage. The other problem with fear kiting for Ench is that fear will often put an unstunned/snared mob out of melee range, and needing to dismiss/break charm to get full Exp off the mobs.

Not sure what level you are OP, but tanking for your pet is entirely viable from 1-12. Even at 12 there are plenty of great charm kiting spots for a lowbie ench to practice at.

My enchanter pet is preferable as someone who partners with a healer full time.
Why? How is your charisma doing at lower levels?
We have leveled from 13 to 45 (currently) in two dungeons as a duo.

Hm, I'm not sure why having a healer partner would make animations superior to charmed pets. If anything it seems like the opposite would be true. The heals make it easier to recover from recharm mishaps and all of the priest classes have tools that make charming safer or more effective (MR debuff from shamans, clerics can stun and buff HP, druids can buff HP and ensnare the charmed pet if you aren't fear kiting or moving camp a lot).

There is some relatively cheap Cha gear out there and you don't need super high charisma to charm effectively, though it helps.

Because of the Spell_vs_Undead for us. And pure mob control. We handle a lot that we see 5 man random groups stumble on. We use the charm for initial big break at times. But once we have a 10+ spawn area on rotation, the enchy pet has some advantages (mainly uninterrupted fast mana resting). We also buff the hell out of it. We will move into charming as the charisma is higher (now calm/lull works great at 150+ charisma).

Clerics make having a charmed pet a breeze. Stuns, roots and (complete) heals will make keeping it charmed trivial.

Animations don't respond to commands, so if you get into a dicey situation, you're going to have to tell him to get lost or deal with broken mezs.

Honestly, having an animation vs a charmed pet is really going to tell a group about your ability as an Enchanter.. and its not flattering. You don't have to wait until your 205cha to start, and you can get a full suit of +cha gear for ~2k.

Good luck getting used to charming! Probably one of the most enjoyable ways to level in an MMO imo.
