Default Game freezes when trying to connect to server list

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble connecting to the server list. I get to the log in screen and it gives me the message "logging into server. Please wait..." but then nothing happens. I don't get an error messages or an unable to connect message, it just seems to freeze.

Here's what I've done:

- replaced and deleted all the files according to the starter guide.
- I did not patch it.
- I changed my eqgame shortcut to have patchme at the end. I've also
- tried launching from the Launch Titanium shortcut, but the same thing happens.
- I went ahead and downloaded lavishsoft, cuz hey why not.
- I'm running it as an admin in XP SP2 compatibility mode.
- I double checked my eqhost.txt and it's as it's supposed to be.
- Double checked that EQ is allowed through my firewall. It is.
- Updated all my drivers

I played on 99 right before Kunark came out, so I've managed this install once before, but it was on my laptop, which I don't have anymore. I'm not sure what to do next, or how to do it. I know the guide said to check the port EQ uses, but I don't know how to do that exactly.

Does anyone have any ideas? Like I said i'm not getting any error messages or crashed or anything, it just freezes up at the "connecting to server" part, so I never even get to see the server list to try to connect.

its your internet not letting you through. Are you running a firewall that could be blocking p99?

I'm not sure how to check that. Is that the part about port 6000 or whatnot that the guide was talking about?

Well I ran a fresh install and now I'm at least getting to a network error that says a connection to the server can not be reached... That's progress I guess. At least I'm getting a message now.
