The only time I've used DAP was as a lvl 12-ish newbie, and ran to surefall glade assuming the circle of sfg was in the game. Contacted a DAP druid who told me it wasn't, so I offered to run to NK (I wanted to go to WC). He said to sit tight, he was going to contact his wizzy friend and he'd send me a tell. All the time I asked him what the going rate is as I'd not done this before, but he wouldn't say.

I waited for around 30 mins in sfg, and got no tell so I made my way to NK and this time contacted another DAP as I didn't want to hassle the first guy. Again I asked how much it would be, twice iirc, but he didn't say. He picked me up and dropped me off in WC and I asked how much.

Him "20p"
Me "I don't have that much, I have around 14p and change"
Him "I can make it 60p if you like"
Me "Will you accept 14p?"
Him "whatever"

I tried to give him the money, but he was sitting down and I got the message that I couldn't trade with him. He disappeared then, I guess he logged off and the reason I couldn't trade was he was camping? Not sure. I hung around the WC rings just in case he came back because I felt bad for not paying but after about 15 mins i moved on. I felt like I cheated him. It was really awkward.

I have no problem at all with DAP, they provide a really useful service and its clear they make a lot of people happy. It works. The only thing I would say is if you have a newbie asking you what the going rate is for a donation/tip, don't pretend you didn't hear them asking you. They don't know what to give you, they probably want to give you whats fair, and thats why they're asking.

I freakin' love Dial A Port and use them all the time. Sometimes I don't even bother asking in guild if someone can port and I go right to /who all Dial. They're always super nice, super fast and I always tip them at least 50p. Plus these are people just trying to save up money for something they want, can't fault them for that. Sometimes they go on to join bigger guilds and sometimes they are alts of people we know [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

All I know as a Wizard people constantly apologized in Kunark for EJ ports. Basically they said they were sorry when they didn't have enough plat for the tip, and they were tipping me 20-50p.

My jaw dropped and I asked: "what do the usual porters usually charge?"

I tried to get a pickup at KC the other day via DAP, and was told pickups are a flat 100p fee unless you're already at the rings then it's a minimum 50p to 60p charge. It's one of those things, if you don't tell me a cost, I'll always tip 50-100p anyways. But when you make it a fee, it kinda irks me, and I find a port elsewhere.

Well, I decided to skimp on mana and skip a heal or two on them. All in good fun, everyone got a good kick out of it.

Time to dispel a few rumors regarding DaP:

Rumor #1: DaP members never respond to my CR requests, they really don't want to do free CR rides at all!

Fact: This is certainly not the case. Last I checked, one of our core rules is that all CR rides should be free, no matter what. We understand how brutally frustrating it can be when you die and your corpse is half-way around the world. We've all been there. If you send a tell to a DaP member for a CR and they don't respond, please try again. At times things can get insanely busy and it is likely that we may have missed your tell.

Rumor #2: DaP is just a bunch of greedy fucks!

Fact: Well, most of us did join in hopes of getting more port requests, and thus more plat, but let's be honest here. The porting business is very up and down. You might make a good amount one day, and lucky to even make 125p the next. Do you want to spend a few hours of your time only making 125p? I certainly do not. But it's a donation based service, so the amount you make is entirely unpredictable. In fact, most of DaP are usually anon and are busy making real plats by farming or leveling up.

Rumor #3: So and so never responded, or charged an insane amount (100p) to come pick me up in FoB, what kind of service is this?

Fact: More often then not, there are only a few of us with dial tags up, meaning at any time we could get slammed with 4-5 ppl requesting pickups, CRs, etc. If someone does not respond, try again or ask another member. If we can't get you, we'll send the request into guild chat in the hopes that someone else can.

Not everyone is bound in OT or KC, places that aren't easily accessible. A lot of work goes into communication with clients and getting them from A to Z as fast as possible. If a DaP member says they will only do it for a set amount, it's because it's a long ass run and they will be missing out on other port requests during the time it takes to come get you.

Rumor #4: DaP is a monopoly, they are trying to take over services of the common folk! I bet the leader's an asshole and takes a weekly percentage from their members too!

Fact: There are no requirements to joining DaP. Anyone can join. They will make you an officer on your first day. No ones going to hit you up for a percentage lol. The leaders, namely Supremacydru and Afeni, are some of the most laid back people around. Hell, they throw fishing derby events for the guild. I'd hardly call that anything but awesome.

Rumor #5: The druids are making a killing with those Velious ports, yo.

Fact: This is 100% truth...

All I wanted to do was try to find the guy i forgot to tip lol... i love dial a port, knowing that whoever i send a tell to is 90% of the time going to be willing to port me...

I founded a Dial A Port awhile back and Supremacydru took over shortly after since I take frequent breaks. That dude is one of the most helpful people I've met on this server. Never thought I'd hear people try to spin on a porting guild. Make it sound like it's a pyramid scheme and he gets a cut lol. Anyways, awesome how big they've gotten. Suprem has done a fantasic job leading. Just like any guild, there will be assholes. If you come across an issue, take it up with Supremacydru or myself.

I seriously just wanted to say my post was in fun, I thought the sarcasm would have been quite transparent but I guess I can see how it could be seen as an accusation...

I have always had good deals with DaP, have never had one person request plat, and they have always responded to every tell I have sent. I am even looking at putting my druid in [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
