Shaman Power

I have never played a shaman, what makes them so good. From 1-60 I might want to make one. So can some of the pro shaman's out there give some advice on the play style on soloing, Thanks.

DoTs are mana efficient which makes soloing easy.
Heals, slows and haste are the primary aspects of a good support role (minus CC).
At high levels, they have a heal spell which looks like someone definitely wasn't paying attention when the development team was discussing balance and scalability.

1-34 - Melee, Slow mobs, Heal self as needed.
34-50 - Root rot, Send pet in back up and let it heal if needed.
50-60 - Get epic. Root 10 mobs, Epic them all. Keep rooted.
