Game Mechanics: Sneak Questing (/say prompts not getting responses from NPC)

Issue: Currently, PCs are not able to activate /say quest prompts while sneaking behind the NPC quest giver. The /say while sneaking ability was removed in the last year, as it was previously usable on Blue and Beta.

This greatly impacts sneaking races/classes and their ability to do these quests that are otherwise unavailable without significant faction work.

Resolution: Reverse prior change and allow NPCs to respond to /say prompts while the PC is properly sneaking behind the NPC.

• Specifically, the Thurgadin Gate portion. You are supposed to be able to get the Velium Purifier from Frundle Frenklar by saying to her 'What velium vial?' This does not work while sneaking behind Frundle to achieve an indifferent faction status with her.

• You are unable to say to Kizdean Gix, 'Utalk Adarev Otcin,' while sneaking behind him in order to receive the a tattered cloth note.

Nice guide. Made my first gate potion last night with 3 back-ups
ready. Sneaking while kos in thurgadim was absolutely no problem. Took
about 2 hours from getting the items to completion.

No, it's not a faction thing... I'm apprehensive and have to sneak too.



It's probably a spelling thing, it's "vapors", not "vapours".

I would just like to add a note that faction does factor into this -
obviouxly as monks it makes no difference because we can sneak - but
to other classes that read this thread if you tell Frundle Frenkler
and your faction is ay aprhensive then she will not give you the
purifier.

I know its been covered but hitting sneak and hailing the Frundle (sp) dorf worked fine for me.

Yes, sneak works for her, I am apprehensive in Thurg, but when I sneak she gives me the purifier.

2004/2005 Posters saying just to use Vah Shir sneak ability to get the Velium Purifier, faction work was not needed. http://beastlords.org/?topic=1539.0

You do need to have good faction with Frundle in order to get the Velium Purifier. I didn't know about that until I actually tried to do the quest, hehe. It seemed to take a good 50 or so giants/wolves to get faction to the right level, but I am really just guessing.

Velium Vapors -- this gates you to the Bridge in Thurgadin and is an
awsome thing for Meleee who are not kos in Thurg.

These have saved me hard ship more than once. This is the Thurgaden
Gate potion, any one can make and use with a pottery skill of about
120 or 130. (the trivial is between those i think) This is an item
required for the Thurg Shawl quests and can be done with indifferent
faction. (maby less but I used sneak with my monk before he had good
faction)

1) Hail Frundle Frekner in Thurgadin and say to her 'what vial of velium vapors'. She will then hand you a container which will you need to combine your final vial. You do need to have indifferent faction in THurgadin, or above, to get her to give you one of these without objection…however do not worry if you don’t, as if you sneak up to her and then ask her for the vapors, she will still give them to you. (Sneak can be useful sometimes!)

Thank you, Elethia! I knew about this, but didn't know how to go about researching it. This was broken at the same time that quest NPCs stopped responding to /say text from invisible players, correctly. Invis never worked for quest dialogue, but sneak definitely did. This is a big issue currently because it is preventing dark elf and other KoS rogues from being able to trigger Stanos for their epic solo. Faction work is not involved in that epic.

How it works is I can sneak behind a KoS mob that requires indifferent or lower for a text trigger, say the phrase, and mash hide / FD asap because the mob will spin to face you. Despite the mob wanting to eat me if I screw up, that portion of the quest should activate.
