From what I was told, by someone along time ago.... Static electricity can fry your computer/xbox/tv. Thats why you dont put it on carpet or any type of cloth on the ground.
My advice? Put an alarm clock next to your laptop. Before you touch the laptop just touch the alarm clock and then laptop?
