Firiona Vie had some pretty hardcore rules for a blue server.
I completely forgot about the alignments, the 1-point-per-hour language rule, and the trivial loot. Wish those had stayed. My 90ish chars on FV are very glad that No Drop is still near non-existant [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I'd reroll on a p99-style FV rules server.

From what I've read on the forums (word of mouth) etc, enchanters are going to have a bad time in Velious compared to Kunark... less charmable mobs around, and apparently they're confined more to giving out clarity and buffing/slowing. I don't believe it however [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Expect to see a throng of SKs/rangers/paladins/bards once the hybrid penalty disappears and they're declared easy mode [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
When Velious came out, my main was an enchanter. I never solo'ed on that enchanter, and didn't get past level 40 or so, but mobs generally have much more hp and higher resistances in Velious. In a group setting, that even makes them more useful since fights last longer, so adds become even more of a problem.

In crystal caverns I felt game-breaking as an enchanter (could deal with 10+ dark blue pulls). Sadly I don't have much more experience in group situations as an enchanter other than fighting in crystal caverns. So no clue how things change at higher levels.

Bards continue to be awesome
Less RSI. 2+ minute selo's. Yay.

Further, Velious was my practice ground for the old-fashioned swarm kiting (aggroing a bunch, charming one, sending it in, let mobs beat on it and break charm as late as possible and finish it off, not the silly thing which they call swarm kiting now), which I heard is no longer possible on p99.

One character per account
After playing on Sullon Zek and Firiona Vie, I really liked this rule. It forces you to play one character, make a choice and go with it. And makes you feel attached to that choice.

Just to put this in perspective, I want my main on p99 to be a cleric, so I'm playing a necro mostly on a different continent, level up my bard now and then, going to use my bard to give my cleric a shining star of light, track for bloodsaber quests etc. However, I haven't logged on my main at all yet, only reserved the name.

On the server I played at in the past, which was Sullon Zek, I had to choose between giving up a near max-level player on one team, because the strongest guild in that team in the current meta at that time became too powerful and started crossteaming and was likely to pretty much take over the server. So I deleted my character which I was really fond of to join the opposite team and joined the guild which before hand was my toughest opponent.

This will never be implemented on p99 I assume (and shouldn't, it's not classic), but I really think the one-character limit is a good thing, in any MMO. Force people to focus and become attached and stick to 1 character. I think Sullon Zek and Firiona Vie would never have been as fun to players as they were if that limit was never in place.

btw, I may be wrong about higher resistances in Velious, since my enchanter had an easy time. But they definitely had more hp.

Anyone can confirm if there were significant changes in MR from mobs in Velious?

Need more research/input/discussion on this.

If you scroll down, it'll have people talking about the random exquisite weapons.

I have completed this quest once. And have been trying to again. The reward is a random exquisit veilium weapons. These weapons are great. For instance i got a 12/20 1hb hammer that i gave to the guild i am in.

Completed:

Items needed:
Seawothy Planking - Random ground spawn in Iceclad, seen normally near gnomes

Rope - 100 feet of waterproof rope that drops of haunted chests in CS.

Sail - Wing from named drake that is next to the zone in location in WW. The wing when ID'd gives a clue to this.

Take all the times back to the gnome and he will reward you with a random exquisite velium weapon.

Sometimes Spear, sometimes brawl stick, just kind of depends. The wing is really the only hard piece since the drake can take a couple groups to kill.

Hope this helps.

Man, old Allakhazam comments are pretty amazing sometimes.

You sneer at 12/20? 12/20 is insanely good for the ease of this quest. The drake that drops the wing is a fast spawn and drops it every time. I've seen many rogues with Ragebringers use this spear in their main hand, and no it wasn't Willsapper, although the graphic is the same.
Replacing Ragebringer with a 12/20 in your primary hand? Uhhh... And how does a spear look like a Willsapper

You melee w/ the 12/20 (better normal hits, same ratio but more damage bonus' applied) then swap in ragebringer for your backstabs.

Assuming you're getting 41% haste from another slot.

Letter from 1/14/2001

Velious was released 12/5/2000. So 40 days after Velious release Sony says they are removing the penalties.

http://www.tski.co.jp/baldio/patch/20010117.html
1/17/2001 the patch note, pointing to this letter. So 43 days after Velious release, Sony effectively removes the penalty (the mechanics are a bit more complicated then just removing).
