Mixed feelings about the OP's post. Aside from even my personal thoughts that RMT inherently defeats the purpose of the game, I really find it hard to believe that someone played that long and didn't know it was a perma ban offense. I feel like even if you had your head in the sand you would ask people about buying from some official source before you turned to some shady guy like platlord and learn it was illegal along the way.
On a side note I think it may be possible for someone who wasn't trying to do RMT and played casually, and didn't read the forums to not know. I think last night I actually went to check if it was in the getting started rules and didn't see it but it appears to be there this morning, and the last edited timestamp is today. So its conceivable if a friend helped you get setup or you just read the instructions real quick you might not know. But still, by the time you go investigating to buy plat you would definitely be aware.

This isn't some cartel thats going to hurt you because you spilled the beans on an RMT deal, it's the right thing to do if you are in a position of having any information.

Well, folks who had their accounts banned for RMT (I don't see anyone denying they did it), it was a harsh lesson and one that will be remembered. I hope to see you guys around p99 after the sting of losing all that time and effort in leveling your characters up lessens.
If ya'll are still playing, I'd use a different forum name for your new characters because RMT carries quite the stigma, least among the troll community. | ||

RMT is an issue partly because of the community (which no one wants to admit). When you trash a tank because he has shit gear, rogue is trashed because he's not twinked or a guy actually sits outside a group and says get rid of Bob and take me I'll do more damage because I'm twinked; you've created a peer pressure situation.
It makes people just feel bad. Then they come to the forums and say "What do I do?" and then people tell them make xyz class for your first class... then you can farm up to twink up the class you really want to play. So I'm going to take a shot that this game as a lot of folks who can't play nearly as much as they used to and you've told them... hey spend crap loads of time and then you'll get to have fun and play what you really want to play. Let's not even get into the funny business that happens at any cash camp. Or you can just pay some money (because you have a lot more money than time at this stage of your life) and skip to step 3 and have fun. If you can't see why its attractive or "don't get it" you're lying to yourself or just stupid. Me? I'm hoping beyond hope that I love a shaman at end game and don't have a step 2 and 3. PS - this is helped by the people assisting new players, but how many newbies are actually getting help?
