Had them out when I was 17. They put me under general anesthesia and when I woke up I felt wonderful. Got home, laid in bed high as a kite, my girlfriend holding my hand while I was talking nonsense and laughing at the shadows on the wall and stuff...and then it started wearing off.

It wasn't pleasant after that. Pain killers helped.

Freaky part was waking up during the procedure. I remember seeing them and hearing them talk about stitching me up, then saying I needed more anesthesia. It wasn't painful or anything, just freaky.

Good luck tomorrow you'll be fuckin just fine I promise, it will be over in what seems like to you an instant. And if you die in the chair I will lead the charge of p99 neckbeards wielding torches and pitchforks on the dentist office in the vengeance of your honour.

They gave me mine in a little brown envelope. I think I still have them somewhere. Sort of interesting to see after the fact, cuz of the roots and all. Not like when baby teeth fall out.
Same but I've lost them somewhere in my nerd cave. Some day when I packrat outta this place I'll find them.

Was it awful? How sedated were you? Was recovery a pain in the ass?

I'm pretty nervous about it (happening on Wednesday) mostly because they have to knock me all of the way out. WHAT IF I DON'T WAKE UP? WHAT IF I'M STILL CONSCIOUS DURING THE SURGERY?

I don't think recovery is going to be very fun. I was prescribed percocet a few weeks ago when they were starting to create a really painful infection in my mouth and I did not react well to it. I got barfy and was overall just out of it, ended up just switching to some strong ibuprofen, which didn't really get rid of all of the pain. I'm worried about having the same reaction to any other kind of pain medication.

Anyway, look out for a shanna_after_the_dentist.avi.

aaaaaaahhhh.
Yes. It was fucking painful. They gave me a percocet script and I was not unconscious during it.

For two weeks I could barely eat decent solid food and my mouth was in constant pain.

Have fun!

I had to get all four of my wisdom teeth removed. But fortunately for me, I have a really good dentist and he suggested that i get 2 taken out at a time. That way the recovery time is not so bad.

I went in and got the two on the left side of my mouth taken out first. He waited about 30 min after injecting me with novacane and then made sure I was well and numb before he began. There is a lot of pulling and some awful cracking sounds, but it actually did not take too long and was over before I knew it.

My dentist prescribed me a good amount of Hydrocodone 750, about 25 pills worth. Honestly, the most awful part was that for the first 2 days, I could not eat solid foods, so I had to drink alot of fluids. And for the first day I also had a mouth full of bloody gauze that I had to keep changing hourly. By the second day though, I was able to do the salt water mouth rinse every hour and it definitely helped.

By day 3 I was eating solid foods again and by day 5 I was back to normal. A week later I got the other side of my mouth taken care of. And my dentist, who is awesome, prescribed me another dosage of Hydrocodone but this time he gave me double, 50 more pills for extra just in case.

Basically, I just played everquest the whole time while doped up on Hydrocodones. It was actually pretty nice. And with the exception of the bloody gauze mouth the first day, being medicated while playing eq was a very relaxing and fun experience. Also, I found it hard to sleep the first two days because of the no food/being doped up. But I did not even feel tired staying up for nearly 3 days because of the medication.

Everyone is different, but I found that one pill would give me a good 6 hours of the intense relaxed feeling and after about 8 hours the effects begin to wear off. In fact, I was so caught up in playing eq that all of the sudden, my mouth started aching terribly and I realized that about 9 hours had gone by and I did not re-dose. After that, I made sure to take a new pill after about 7 hours.

When my brother decided to get his wisdom teeth removed he opted for all four at once. He was absolutely miserable for 5 days, he could not eat anything solid. And then for another 3 or 4 days after he was still recovering. Also, they used nitrous oxide instead of the novacane and he was perscribed codine pills instead. This was about a year before my procedure so it definitely swayed my opinion on going for two teeth at once instead of all four.

Hope this help [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

They were supposed to put me under, did the IV and everything but I was awake and communicating with the dentist the whole time. Lulz. Mine were grown all the way in, they just looked like extra molars.

No pain afterwards. I only took the percocet as sleeping pills. I was literally out drinking and smoking that night and didn't get dry socket ***STILL NOT RECOMMENDED***.

Make sure you get a syringe from them to clean out the tooth holes cause foods gonna get stuck in there and its gross and annoying.

Also you might get a sore jaw. Sore and tired like you've been chewing gum for hours and hours. Not really painful just a little tender.

Not bad at all. I (silently) had a godamn panic attack when I sat down in the chair and they made me sign a consent form indicating I was aware that there was a possibility of them puncturing my sinus cavity (!!) when removing the upper ones, or fucking with the major nerve that gives life to your lips/tongue/gums (!!) when removing the lower ones.

They didn't give me do a countdown. I felt the pinch from the IV, she said I might feel a slight burning sensation in my right shoulder (which I did not) and maybe 10 seconds later I was out.

This same exact thing happened to me. I recall waking up four times and it looked like a fucking movie with four people with surgical masks in your face, powerless to do anything. Every time I'd open my eyes the doc would tell me to shut them, I would oblige and just pass back out. I recall seeing the doc stitch me up (pulling the string or whatever it is in and out of my mouth), which was weird. I didn't feel anything though, and although I heard the sounds of who-knows-what-the-fuck kind of machinery they were using, it wasn't cringe worthy. At one point I believe he told them to up my anesthetic.

I was not very loopy after the procedure. I did need to have someone help walk me out to the car, but by the time I got home (20 minute car ride), I was fine. Was obviously talking funny because of a totally numb tongue. I was kind of disappointed, actually!! Was hoping to do at least ONE loopy retarded thing I could later laugh at. Oh well, maybe I'll just chug some vicodin and get ~crazy~ that way.

Oh and my ride did attach a video camera to his rear view mirror sometime in-between dropping me off and driving me home. That asshole.

So now I'm home. My mouth/chin/some of my cheek areas being totally numb was a really bizarre feeling, I had a really hard time taking my antibiotics + pain meds when I first got home, I just couldn't tell if I was swallowing them or not and ended up having to spit them out and try again. The right side of my face actually feels really fine, it's the left side that's being a mother fucker. Right side is no longer numb and not even painful. Left side is still retarded numb and very painful. Now that my tongue is un-numbing I'm starting to taste blood and whatever else. Yuck.

Didn't know that on day 1 I'm not allowed to have warm foods, because that's pretty much all I planned for (soup, overcooked pasta, etc). Pudding can only go so far! My roomie just went to go track down a smoothie from Kiva Juice or something.

Anyway, for your viewing pleasure. I'm assuming the broken up ones came from the side of my mouth that's more painful than the other:

Also, gonna laze around in bed the next three days. Looking for movie recommendations. I'm on a Romance kick right now, but I'm sure that's not the most popular genre 'round here.

Netflix preferred, but I can also "absolutely legally" obtain a copy of whatever.

Had something similar happen to me during an upper endoscopy. Woke up with a tube down my throat I couldn't breathe or move I just kept trying to swallow it which was impossible and just made me gag a little. Only woke up for maybe 6-7 seconds and passed back out, but it was very scary...
