![]() What? Another newbie from that reddit post a few days ago?! Jeez!
At any rate, just wanted to pop in and say hey to folks on the forums. Was an old school EQer from Beta to PoP. I've been playing for 2 days so far as an little Iksar Necro named Snoozin. The general consensus is they'll be an easy way to go to level up and fund my real passion, a healer class. I'm thinking Cleric or Druid. I have some dumb questions I hope people can answer for me, as it's been way too long since I used to tool around Vallon Zek killing people. Do Tradeskills grant exp? (I can't recall.) How long is the corpse timer on the server? (How long do I have to get my loots back?) Is tailoring a good way to go for a Necro? (I recall iksar gear quests to be few and far between early on, and I'd like to wear something other than this fabulous pink robe.)

Rez timers and decay timers are different things. It also changes based on if you are logged into the game or not. For rez a couple hours, and for decay a week. If iirc. I don't have exact numbers. That's if you're in-game. Tradeskills are always good to go for extra plat, utility, items, and depth to the game. They suck to do though. Always have, still do. Annoying as crap. Getting one to max shows you have some serious determination.

![]() Awesome, thanks for the quick replies! I was more worried about dying at the end of the evening and not getting back to my body for another day or so.

That said, tailoring is going to inevitably waste your time and money. You will need tailoring for the thurgadin shawl quest in velious though. Save your $ and do not pick up a tradeskill.

But seriously, would it be better to just buy some silk gear, rather than making it?

I mean if you spend X time farming mobs for components, that's X time you did not spend leveling - which would result in you being able to kill monsters Y and Z who may drop something you could sell or use. but, again cut that nonsense out and have fun. it's the best game ever if you treat it right [You must be logged in to view images. ![]() It's not as hard to get back to a body as you may think, unless you died in a really awkward spot, or you're just having terrible luck finding people to help (off hours, slow day, week without a shower etc).
Porters are usually more than willing to help to get you as close as possible to a body, necros can summon it, clerics can rez etc etc. Of course it's nice to be kind if you decide to outright ask and not beg. It's also nice to donate whatever you can to those nice people for their time. And of course, guilds will usually be more than willing to help their members in their endeavors. So long as the guild isn't full of assholes.

![]() By level 25-30, you should be able to get some nice gear drops. Honestly, it is probably faster to sell stacks of bone chips and buy an advisor robe / flowing black robe than it would be to tailor yourself something.

![]() Don't bother with the necro, somber.
If you want to play a healer, then just play the healer. They basically have no need for any gear whatsoever when played in a group. Your mana regen is the only limiting factor in how effective your healer will be, and there is (realistically) no gear to help you regenerate mana more quickly. Even a larger mana pool is only useful, as a healer, when you get a bad pull or bad luck. Just get in the habit of always telling your group that your mana is 40% lower than it actually is so that when baddies insist on pulling faster than your mana can keep up, you have a 40% mana buffer to work with. Use /who a lot to look for tanks and monks, then duo up with them. Add in more sustained dps classes like rogues, mages, or necros if you want. Hit up an enchanter or shaman to make your job as healer a lot easier and to help those DPS rip things up. Etc. When that isn't working, clerics can really duo with most anyone, and actually can do surprisingly well solo (if you want to do it) by hitting zones like unrest and lower guk and such. Note that is you want to be the "healer" though, you really need to be a cleric. Druids and shams can heal just fine at lower levels or with certain group compositions, but clerics are the true healer of EQ.
