There is no global chat on P99.


I don't think there are any plans to ever add it either.


I'm not sure on that last part though.. my vote is for no global chat either way.

From what I read, it used to be here because it's built into the emu, but they took it out because it's not classic. If you havn't noticed yet, the devs are a little OCD about mimicking everything classic, so it'll never happen.

IMO the "its not in P99 because its not classic" excuse is way overused.

There are many things in P99 that isnt classic as well...so if those can exist, why cant this?

A global chat doesnt even affect the game as much as a gameplay function. Global chats has always been optional to join, if you dont wish to have your chat box spammed, you can just leave the global chat channels.

Using logic like that one might say something like: "Since there are many murders committed in the world every year - why not kill a few more people?"

Risky analogies aside, The intent is to provide as close to the classic experience as possible. Some things are not possible. Some others are possible but simply have not been done yet due to lack of manpower/time. Finally, there are a tiny number of things - less than the count of fingers of one hand - that the devs have decided to do a little differently to resolve difficult issues that were not issues at the time classic was originally underway.

Once we start saying it isn't exactly classic now, so why not deviate, we will loose sight of the target and produce something different. You might want that, but that is not the idea here.

It's not really needed. Most zones have a lot of people in them already, and you can always go on the forums/mumble/IRC if you want to communicate with others. There's some debate as to whether Red99 needs global ooc as a part of its stimulus package though.

When were chat channels implemented? I miss those... I'd detest a general serverwide ooc channel though, that's a retarded idea.
