Default reasons why server is/has failed

1> worst possible timing for release, had it been released 6 months sooner things would be much better, instead it was released right before the holiday season and during other major launches. releasing veeshans peak and epic quests on the blue server did not help either.

2> complete lack of attention from the devs, shit that was reported in early beta continues to be broken (dots with no icon, whirl, dozens of others), the only attention the server gets is the occasional early morning system boardcast threat that we better not train each other or else. as an aside we have been waiting for a defined set of rules since the server opened and have yet to recieve one.

3> no global chat, does not make a fuck if little jimmy gets his feelings hurt after being pked by a mouthbreather saying "u mad bro?" when there are 150 or so on at peak during the weekend global chat is needed, hence the reason the carebear blue server had one until its population picked up.

4> xp grind, i do not like the idea of increasing xp, however reality is that 2/3 of my guild quit between level 30 - 40 because they have wives, kids and jobs that do not mesh with 6 hours per level, this is undoubtedly the same for every other guild as well. the bluebie mantra of "enjoy the journey man! not the destination!" absolutely does not apply for the majority of players on any pvp server in any game ever made.

5> no multiboxing, again this is something i do not like as it creates an environment where everyone has a druid or shaman buff/port bot and eliminates half of my class specific advantages. however unless you join a zerg guild and are willing to deal with the idiots in such a guild you are not getting a group most of the time, allowing boxing would make it possible for small groups of friends to be self sufficient.

5> selective adherence to whats classic or not, ice comet not requiring a vox kill months ahead of schedule is "insignficant" and warrants no change, yet things like nerfing tradeskills down to the 200 cap is vitally important.

6> no penalty for pvp death, 100 copper and 1% of your enemies level is not an incentive to kill or not to be killed, in fact it is for most people a complete waste of time and mana as they now have to spend ten minutes medding to full (longer if buffs got dispelled). at least give us a fucking leaderboard and/or a serverwide kill message if you are not going to put in the classic eq penalties in terms of item loot or a real xp death.

7> "improved" resistance system that sees magic based nukes land better than fire/cold nukes, stuns landing more often than not, roots on 150 mr targets, ebolts all day long on 140 poison resistance and so on. this had to of been fucked with numerous times under the radar since launch because it is not how it was during beta.

on average the server runs 150 - 160 primetime now, in a few weeks it will be at or close to 100, and then the atrophy rate will likely double until it bottoms out around 50 - 70.

if drastic and sweeping changes are not made directly the server is going to take a shit and never recover, which is unfortunate because i have been enjoying myself and the classic (ish) eq experience again, but as things stand it appears i will be headed back to ipy2 in about a month =/

ahh as much as i wanted to troll, most of the points are spot on - shit that we (anyone with half a brain and played in 1999, read: NOT lazerfag or any dev) have been saying since before beta.

the biggest problem is the ones leading the server have no pvp experience and large egos (eh, deal with it you do) so they refuse to listen to anyone and bury head in sand.

servers been fucked for a long time I've just been riding it down into the grave like a good White Knight would do.

edit: do Sirken and Null even participate on these forums/dev'ing anymore? Considering the face Sirken was to vztz, I'm astonished the last time I've seen/heard of him has been early December...

cant rly complain about the grind and then suggest adding real exp loss for pvp death, but I agree on almost every point, though I'd add the fact that the community sucks as another.

Screw the xp: we've all played this game and know what we were getting into.

I think that's really the key point here. I really wanted to enjoy myself, but could not with all the people who think playing a 12 year old game requires you to act as though you were 12.

In game is better than on these forums, but the general attitude of these forums still have an effect. A good word which describes this community is caustic.

the board community is 180 degrees from the experience i have in game

even the hardcore griefers lighten up to blewb it up when they get tired of not getting tears.

that's the key thing...people have to learn not to give up the QQ. If you're getting camped, play an alt. find a few people around your level and friend them. it's a bit tougher now at lower levels - but not impossible - as long as you don't bank on leveling like you do on blue, you're ok.

I am very much enjoying the server and think it has a very solid and long lasting ruleset.

You really get a sense of acomplishment here on this server when you reach a new level or get a rare drop, despite the pvp threat always around the corner.

Copying lvl 60's over from blue??? Putting in fast xp??? BOXING????? you people are insane.

OP needs to be ignored.

The only things i'd suggest (besides ongoing bug work, like making sure resist system is where it should be, etc), is SLIGHT tweeks to encourage grouping, like a small group xp bonus (which is classic right? I forget when they added the group bonus and/or made it "better") and making the class/race xp penalties apply to the individual and not shared out amongest their group.

Just small things to encourage grouping, which then leads to community building and a better time for all.

and LOL at Darwoth wanting boxing, so him and his three friends dont have to join a real raiding guild and instead do raid content themselves. Sorry darwoth, part of the "work" in getting that raid loot is dealing with the larger pool of people (good and bad) in a real raid guild.

You dont want to mingle with the pleeps in the "zerg guilds"? ok, then no raid loot for you.

tl;dr: Sever is solid, the table has been set well for us and we are grateful. Its in the communities hands now to build it up, not the devs.

you are a moron, i can solo let alone duo or more my planar armor

not interested in any dragon loot that cant be bought or ninjalooted with an alt.

kunark/velious anything that matters for a pvper is easily obtainable.

boxing would not be for me, it would be for those who have nobody to play with and can not find groups.

Mostly 1), but everything except 4 I agree with. Especially 7 for the sake of pvp.

If you are going to change exp (4) in some way, I'd say just add a modifier to groups, and balance the stupid class/race exp penalties. No real need for anyone to get less exp unless you are gonna slightly nerf solo classes exp to encourage grouping.

I have been loving the server, anyone who keeps playing and says otherwise is a dum nerd.

That being said, you are right on all counts and i fully endorse this
