Default spells file wrong even though I followed instructions?

I have installed EQ for P1999 on several computers now, but I decided to try on linux, ubuntu 11.10. I got the game installed, downloaded and copied the files from the getting started thread, but when I log into the P1999 servers I get a message that tells me I need to update my spell files.

Also can't see my character models, but I hope that's a side effect of the spell file issue.

Thank you for any assistance.

I copied a working windows install into the wine program files directory and I can log into the server, but text is unreadable and models aren't displayed. Also seems to crash randomly. I followed the instructions to build wine while modifying the direct3D dll, so I thought that would be fixed. Maybe I'm wrong.

Are you using titanium?

Try using my installer (see in signature) to set it up. Run option (1) on a new Titanium install.
